Integration of Manufacturing Execution System (MES) with SAP

A .NET & Modbus fueled project to align a Global leader in vibration control, fluid management, and sealing system technologies based on rubber, thermoplastic, elastomeric and polymer materials, that has been operating continuously since the 19th century, with the demands of new digital reality.

Our team was tasked with developing a brand-new application architecture. A complete solution for digitization of the production information tracking process.

This end-to-end project was a crucial part of the path of digital transformation of this global enterprise. This meant we had to start from the ground up, crafting the perfect architecture, design, code, and tests to respond to the demands of today’s reality.

Scope & highlights

Our approach

At Hicron Software House, we understand the transformative power of the SAP ERP system for businesses. SAP ERP seamlessly integrated with other systems like production data software, or even robots – we know exactly what protocols, frameworks & tools to use.

Knowing our background (a vast portfolio of SAP implementations), our client trusted us entirely to make this ERP system integration a reality.

Additionally, two of their external systems weren’t talking to each other properly. Data wouldn’t import, was in an unreadable format. So we set out on a mission to fix it too.

Our Solution

#1. Our first task was to integrate two external systems with the SAP ERP in the right way.

We used .NET and Net Services to ensure the data is generated, exported and imported correctly at all times.

#2. The second task was to integrate the ERP system with machines on the production lines.

We used Modbus – a data communication protocol for connecting industrial electronic devices. Thanks to this solution, all the information that the employee on the production line needed was imported from the ERP system and presented on the machine’s screen. Work previously done manually has been fully digitized, automating and streamlining operations on the production line.

After correctly integrating the ERP system with external systems, the issues of data disappearing ceased.

Integrating machines on production lines with the ERP system saved time of employees working on the lines. Now, they can access all needed information fast.

Information such as the number of components to be placed in the box, and the printing of dedicated labels after integration are available from a single source of information.

Manual data from production line is directly inserted into SAP. The integration of production machinery with SAP has fully digitized the process of tracking production information.

The new application architecture, tested and matched to the manufacturer’s individual requirements, ensures the smooth continued operation of the entire unit to ensure that global production operations remain optimized.

Technologies we used

.NET Framework 4.8, Web Services, Modbus Protocol (Modbus RTU), Modbus for .NET, SQL Server, Oracle, Entity Framework for SQL i Oracle

What our partners say about us

After carefully evaluating suppliers, we decided to try a new approach and start working with a near-shore software house. Cooperation with Hicron Software House was something different, and it turned out to be a great success that brought added value to our company.

With HICRON’s creative ideas and fresh perspective, we reached a new level of our core platform and achieved our business goals.

Many thanks for what you did so far; we are looking forward to more in future!

The IT system supporting the work of retail outlets is the foundation of our business. The ability to optimize and adapt it to the needs of all entities in the PSA Group is of strategic importance and we consider it a step into the future. This project is a huge challenge: not only for us in terms of organization, but also for our partners – including Hicron – in terms of adapting the system to the needs and business models of PSA. Cooperation with Hicron consultants, taking into account their competences in the field of programming and processes specific to the automotive sector, gave us many reasons to be satisfied.
