Our client, operating both in Europe and the United States, introduced their European application to the USA’s market. Here, customers have different expectations, and different features are available – so our client needed to adapt the solution to this new environment.

What was standing in their way was staff shortages. In March 2020, we embarked on an ambitious project aimed at adapting and enhancing a European automotive application to meet the needs of the U.S. market. Our goal was to digitalize processes related to car buying journey, ownership and management, ensuring a seamless user experience for both end customers and dealers in the premium automotive sector.

Our Solution

We worked in Scrumban, at the beginning as a team of 4 full-stack developers (one of which was a lead). Later the priorities changed, and our Quality Assurance Experts joined the team to create testing process ensuring a balanced approach to development and strategic planning.

The main part of the tech stack is Amazon AWS cloud. We wrote in Angular, node.js, and Typescript, and to make the features as light as possible, we use AWS Lambdas. We used IaC, Infrastructure as a Code. Continuous Integration is based on AWS.

Benefits

Thanks to features automating up-selling, customers can initialize processes when they are interested in additional services or products. That saves both time of the client’s employees, as well as money.

The application that the company makes available to its customers offers many functionalities. It is making car ownership easier and more enjoyable, and builds a good image of the client’s brand.

The digitalisation of processes related to car ownership and maintenance made them faster and more intuitive for customers.

Market Adaptation and Digitalization

Adapting the European application to fit the U.S. market involved understanding and integrating different market expectations and requirements. The focus was on digitalizing key processes associated with car ownership, streamlining operations for both customers and dealers. This adaptation was crucial for ensuring the application met the unique needs of American users, driving engagement and satisfaction.

Comprehensive Testing Strategy

To guarantee the reliability and performance of the application, a comprehensive testing strategy was developed from the ground up. This strategy included:

  • Extensive testing scenarios tailored to the premium sector’s behavior.
  • Introduction of testing standards and best practices to maintain high-quality outcomes.

This robust testing framework was essential for supporting the ecosystem of applications that underpin the digital buying experience and after-sales servicing.

Brand Consistency and UX Supervision

Ensuring global brand consistency was paramount. We navigated the adherence to corporate standards across the globe in terms of UI and UX, guaranteeing a uniform user experience. This consistency helped in maintaining the brand’s premium image and customer trust worldwide.

Collaboration and Continuous Integration

Collaboration with Hicron Software House played a significant role in adapting the system to the client’s specific business models within the premium automotive sector. Our team actively participated in the development of the client’s application ecosystem, working closely with an international team. Key highlights include:

  • Automating up-selling processes for customers interested in additional services or products.
  • Maintaining continuous integration to streamline operations and enhance performance.

Working remotely during the pandemic

In March 2020, the team moved to Atlanta, Georgia, planning to stay there for at least half a year. For two weeks, engineers worked in our client’s office, along with other developers and designers.

Then the coronavirus pandemic happened and most companies decided to switch to remote working.

For our client, making sure all the processes carry on was challenging in this situation. But for the team that works remotely from the very beginning, it was known territory.

To all our clients that face the challenge of organizing rules for remote work for the first time, we offer our support and gladly share experiences. We always encourage remote working – as not only a remedy for pandemic times but as the most comfortable way of working in development teams.

Successful Ongoing Cooperation

Since its inception in 2020, the project has seen successful ongoing cooperation, resulting in numerous achievements:

  • Meeting and exceeding business goals.
  • Adding significant value to the client’s company through innovative solutions and strategic implementations.
  • Ensuring client satisfaction through a strong focus on collaboration and quality.

By consolidating efforts across various domains, this case study illustrates the effective transformation of a European automotive application into a tailored solution for the U.S. market, reinforcing the client’s position in the premium automotive sector.

The IT system supporting the work of retail outlets is the foundation of our business. The ability to optimize and adapt it to the needs of all entities in the PSA Group is of strategic importance and we consider it a step into the future. This project is a huge challenge: not only for us in terms of organization, but also for our partners – including Hicron – in terms of adapting the system to the needs and business models of PSA. Cooperation with Hicron consultants, taking into account their competences in the field of programming and processes specific to the automotive sector, gave us many reasons to be satisfied.
